Chesterfield

It was the site of the Battle of Chesterfield in 1266, in which a royalist army defeated rebel barons. Under the Local Government Act 1972, Chesterfield's boundaries date from 1 April 1974, when an amalgamation of the municipal borough with the Staveley urban district and with the Brimington parish from the Rural District of Chesterfield formed the Borough of Chesterfield.

The site is host to a Tesco Extra and the Proact Stadium, near Lockoford Lane Dema Glass's factory closed. The crooked spire of Church of Saint Mary and All Saints perhaps is how Chesterfield is best known for.

Manufacturing paper-based packaging in the town, Robinson's divested its health-care interests, which led to downsizing in the workforce and facilities in Chesterfield. Once based near Chesterfield railway station on Brimington Road, Trebor merged with Sheffield's Bassetts sweets, was by Cadbury taken over, and was relocated to a unit at Holmewood Business park.

The Co-operative Society of Chesterfield and District into a regional entity was incorporated, now the biggest independent retail society in the UK, the Midlands Co-operative Society Limited, in 2001. Offers many courses, Chesterfield College, a further education college, is within a walk that is five-minutes of the railway station at Chesterfield.

Chesterfield beat Manchester City in 2006 and West Ham to move into, where it was, by Charlton Athletic, beaten on penalties, the last 16. With stations in Bolsover, Dronfield, Clay Cross, Newbold, Killamarsh, Shirebrook, and Staveley, Chesterfield is policed by Derbyshire Constabulary, and Chesterfield Station, on New Beetwell Street.
